The stress hormone cortisol is known as an enemy of the hippocampus and consequently of the memory and the ability of the brain to learn new things.

To be able to remember something, our brain must be receptive to it because only then can new information be stored in it. That means that you give it the necessary attention and you are not busy with other things in your mind. For example, those who are anxious or depressed are not open to recording new information. If you suffer from depressive feelings, seek professional help before you worry about your memory. Don’t just grab pills.

Have fun

As we get older, the number of receptors for the neurotransmitter dopamine at the level of the synapses between the brain cells decreases. This messenger molecule, which is strongly related to our feelings, is mainly active in the frontal lobes. A reduced dopamine activity makes people less inhibited, they flap things out easier. Attention is also regulated from this brain area, some people seem more often absent.

We can try to curb the reduced dopamine activity by doing more pleasant things more often: watching a humorous film, reading a nice book, having fun with friends, … It is a huge joy and your memory benefits!
